GuardDog:
a new generation of biometric readers for hazardous environments (November 13, 2000 - Las Vegas)At COMDEX 2000, Quantrad Corporation introduces its GuardDog, a miniature stand-alone biometric device for authentication in harsh environments. Building on the success of its CombiFamily technology, Quantrad has responded to market requests for a unit that is sealed and can with stand moisture, heat, and cold. No longer are the needs for secure access and time and attendance authentication restricted by environmental conditions. The GuardDog is the first in the Quantrad product suite to offer the use of a button instead of a card as the mechanism to store fingerprint data. When placing the button with the encrypted fingerprint information to the unit, coupled with a finger being placed on the sensor, authentication quickly takes place. The fingerprint sensor has been designed to withstand the punishment of abrasion, dust and grease. The case is made of a high impact polycarbonate blend. GuardDog is 2.5"W x 4.5"H x 1"D and is easily mounted on a wall. A complete set of communication protocols can be used.
